Deadline announced for applications to join Think Ahead in 2018

Today we’re announcing that the closing deadline for applications to join our 2018 intake is Thursday 1 February 2018 at 5pm.

We’re looking for remarkable graduates and career-changers who want to make a real difference to people with mental health problems. If you want a graduate job that is both rewarding and challenging, our intensive two-year programme could be for you.

On the programme, you’ll be paid to work in an expert team alongside clinical professionals, study for a master’s degree in social work, and develop your leadership skills.

You don’t need prior experience of mental health or social work to apply. We look for people who have the potential to become excellent mental health social workers, by testing for the following attributes: leadership, motivation, adaptability, relationship-building, communication, problem-solving and self-awareness.

Mental health is an urgent national challenge. Mental illness is everywhere – it turns lives upside down, and it affects our whole society.

Mental health social workers empower individuals with mental illness. Through therapy, support, and advocacy, they enable people to manage the social factors in their lives—like relationships, housing, and employment—that allow them to get well and stay well.

Visit our About mental health social work page to find out more about the role – you can also see stories from people who have been supported by social workers, including Laurie, who said: “My social worker gave me hope so that the future was a positive one, even though I was in a negative, dark place.”

You can also visit our Who we’re looking for page to read stories from some of our current participants, including Sonya, a University of Manchester graduate who said: “Social work is so holistic and practical. You get out and empower people. That’s how I want to help.”
