Celebrating Social Workers
We are delighted to be marking Social Work Week, to celebrate and reflect on the impact social workers have on the lives of people every day.
Led by the specialist regulator Social Work England, the week aims to bring people together to learn, connect, and influence change.
- Learn: the breadth of social work – lived, learned and professional experiences
- Connect: social work identity and sharing best practice
- Influence: looking back at the past three years and forward to what’s next for social work in England.
Great social work is key to better mental health support
We know that when you’re struggling with your mental health, a lot of things can feel daunting. We also know that without the right support, from the right person, it is very hard to feel better and live the life we want and deserve.
As our new CEO Philippa Mariani reminded us in her recent blog, that support may come from friends, family, or community. But for many people, the support of professionals, will also be vital.
Whilst it is brilliant to be celebrating social workers this week, we have to do more than simply celebrate them. We have to back them; prioritise their wellbeing and give them the resources necessary to do their jobs effectively.
Learning and sharing through events
Open to everyone, a range of events led by professionals and people with lived and learned experience will run throughout the week.
We are delighted to be co-hosting our own event with East London NHS Foundation Trust: “The importance of social work identity in mental health teams”.
Led by Think Ahead social workers Jacqui Bell and Alexia Fenwick, the session will explore how to promote social approaches in multidisciplinary teams, the challenges of maintaining social work identity and the value of social approaches in mental health settings.
The session will be held 22nd March, 10-11am and you can register to attend here.
