Responding to Community Care poll
We have been heartened by the response and support we’ve had from many in the sector and from our partner organisations over the last few weeks, following the news that the Department of Health and Social Care will not continue funding our programme beyond our 2025 intake.
We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved with our programme – we have brought diverse and dedicated people into the profession who otherwise may have been unable to train as mental health social workers.
Social workers who train with Think Ahead are nearly three times more likely to report wanting to stay in the profession compared to others in the sector.
Although we were disappointed to see the results of a poll in Community Care about the decision to end the funding for our programme, the article also highlighted some very strong support for Think Ahead – especially amongst those who have worked directly with us or trained with us.
We were not surprised to hear our trainees described as passionate and capable – we see this every day!
Our NHS trust and local authority partners tell us that our social workers are highly valued, in fact 86% say that they make a meaningful impact during their first year in the team, before they are even qualified.
Our programme has always focused on improving support for people with mental health needs, providing holistic, person-centred care and advocating for evidence-based practices.
We have recruited and trained over 1,100 (and counting!) mental health social workers, who have supported over 50,000 people living with mental health needs.
Our commitment to our work is unwavering – we will continue to advocate for mental health social workers and for a system where people with mental health needs can live the life they want and deserve.
