Welcoming our new Chair of Trustees

We are delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chair to lead our Board of Trustees.

Peter Hay CBE is joining to replace longstanding founding Chair, Professor Dame Carol Black GBE, as she comes to the end of her full term on the Board.

A hugely experienced leader in social care, Peter’s expertise and commitment to social justice will strengthen our ongoing work to build a thriving mental health workforce with the right skills and resources to tackle the mental health crisis that affects so many of us.

Professor Dame Carol Black GBE, outgoing Chair of Trustees

Our founding Chair is stepping down after 10 years in post.  As announced at our 10-year celebration event, Dame Carol will be taking up the position of our first ever patron.

Professor Dame Carol Black GBE says:
“What started off as a six-month project for me turned into a ten-year tenure as Chair of Think Ahead’s Board of Trustees and what an honour that has been.

“I am delighted to hand over to someone as excellent and forward-thinking as Peter; and I’m so pleased to be invited by the board to become Think Ahead’s first Patron.

“I look forward to advocating for mental health services and the workforce in this new role, and to remaining closely involved with the charity for many years to come.”

Peter Hay CBE, new Chair of Trustees

A social worker by training, Peter is an experienced leader in social care services for adults and children and will steer the charity through its five-year strategy, supporting transformation in mental health services.

Peter Hay CBE says:
“Think Ahead’s ambition to create a workforce that empowers people to live well resonates with my passion for the difference that purposeful, values-led organisations make in people’s lives and communities.

“I’m delighted and hugely excited to be joining such a fantastic organisation at this point in its development.”

We make this new appointment at a critical time in our mission to realising better support for people living with mental health needs.
